Default avatar icons are one of the most overlooked opportunities in interface design. A gray circle with initials tells your users absolutely nothing. These 75 hand-drawn Sharpie-style avatars replace that emptiness with characters that have actual personality: curly hair, glasses, headwear, beards, different expressions, and unique features that make each one feel like a real person rather than a placeholder.

Why These Avatars Stand Out

Most avatar sets go for flat, geometric sameness. Every face follows the same template with minor variations. The Sharpie collection deliberately breaks that mold. Each avatar is drawn with thick marker-style outlines, intentional negative space, and carefully balanced visual weight that keeps every character detailed and readable even at small icon sizes. They work just as well at 24px sidebar thumbnails as they do at 200px profile headers.

75 unique character avatars with diverse appearances and expressions
Bold black-and-white Sharpie line style with clean shapes
Designed for light and dark theme interfaces
Fully editable AI, SVG, and PNG vector files
Optimized for Notion, Figma, Webflow, Canva, and all major design tools

Built for Real Product Use

Notion workspace profile icons. Team "About Us" pages. SaaS platform default user avatars. Testimonial sections. Employee directories. Collaborative tool user lists. Portfolio platforms. Digital learning apps. Anywhere a human face needs to appear in your interface but a photo is not available or not desired.

The inclusive design approach means this set features genuine diversity: different hair textures, facial features, accessories, and styles. These are not one template with five skin tone swaps.

Want avatars with halftone textures instead? Try the Grain Character Avatars for a softer, textured approach. For more Sharpie assets, combine these with the Sharpie Arrow Icons and Sharpie Restaurant Icons to build a full hand-drawn design system.
